PUSO South Bay
PUSO South Bay and Long Beach Area Peace Network demands the following from the U.S. and Philippine governments:
- Compensation for impacted communities in the Philippines.
- An immediate and thorough investigation of the operations of the US surveillance plane that crashed and intelligence operations in the Philippines.
- Transparency from the US Department of Defense and Department of State on US military intelligence operations in the Philippines and a report of its impact and harm on the Filipino people.
- Transparency on the use of US-given $336 million military aid to the Philippines and a demand to rescind it.
- Removal of the Typhon Missile System and HIMARS from the Philippines, which endangers the lives of Filipino people in the event of war breaking out in the region.
- Pass the Philippine Human Rights Act in the US Congress
Philippines US Solidarity Organization of South Bay (PUSO South Bay) and Long Beach Area Peace Network (LBAPN) demand an investigation of the U.S. aircraft flying over the Philippines that crashed in Maguindanao on February 6, 2025. The plane crash killed 22 year old Sgt Jacob Durham of Long Beach, 3 other defense contractors, and a carabao (water buffalo), an animal that peasants throughout the country rely on for their livelihood as farmers.The death of the people onboard the aircraft bring into question the early age recruitment practices in the US, and the clandestine operations of these young servicemen deep in Philippine sovereign land.
The surveillance operation that resulted in the crash is a waste of the people’s taxpayer dollars that led to unnecessary deaths and grave impact on the rural poor the Philippines. “Durham made the ultimate sacrifice for our country” to quote a Lieutenant Colonel Mabel B. Annunziata. However this was a routine mission to spy over the Philippines. Sgt Durham died surveilling the Philippine people. Furthermore, according to the official statement by the Indo Pacific Command, the identity of the 3 contractors has not been revealed. Were these contractors Filipinos or Americans? Nor is there mention of the damage to the province of Maguindanao del Sur or compensation for the carabao or damage to the rice field from the crash. An investigation is needed.
Colluding with the Philippine government, the U.S.’ escalating presence in the Philippines continues to provoke all out war with China, and puts the Filipino people in the crosshairs of two rivaling superpowers.
